Macro Plankton
The macro plankton attracted by the light of my headlights were caught by the tentacles of a Cérianthe. The cérianthe is close to sea anemones. It has at its upper end more than 200 tentacles arranged in several crowns around the mouth. There are 2 types of tentacles of different colors. The longest are positioned at the periphery and the shorter, near the mouth. To feed, the cerianth captures animal plankton with its long tentacles. These then fold back towards the center to transfer food to the shorter tentacles that lead them to the mouth.
