Among the tiger sharks
An hour spent in the water between this humpback whale carcass and 6 tiger sharks that came to meet me. It was not a tourist attraction as seen in some parts of the world.
We were in the olfactory column, of the carcass. That is to say that it drifted with the wind and the trail it left (grease, piece of meat, smell) created an odorous column in which the tiger sharks moved and went up it permanently. We were on the other side at first, but being downwind of the carcass, the nauseating smell was no longer bearable, so we went to the other side, into the olfactory column. From that moment, we entered into competition with them (knowing that they are already there among themselves). It was a little turf war with a dominant/dominated relationship.
In this situation, it is imperative and above all vital to remain calm, to always face up when they approach, vertical position when they come into contact while pushing them gently towards the food stimuli and above all keep an eye everywhere.
