Sperm Whale

All of this photo series of sperm whales was taken in Mauritius. Indeed, thanks to deep sea-bottoms very close to the coasts, Mauritius hosts a resident sperm whale population all year long. Most of the times you can see groups of females with their youngsters. Large male sperm whales are, on the other hand, more offshore and occasionally  return in their groups to mate. Sperm whales may form groups of several dozen individuals. An  encounter with these giants of the seas, absolute apnea champions, is always magic.
