Don't be affraid !
An image that can be misleading when you don't know the context in which it was taken! This is why I hesitated to publish it. A little explanation is in order!
Seeing this photo, you naturally think that this tiger shark is about to attack this diver and tear him to pieces in just two bites.
And yet this is not the case at all!
“Don't be afraid”, that's what I named this photo, not so much for the diver (who certainly got a little scared), but especially for this tiger shark, because it's clearly he who was the most frightened at that precise moment.
Indeed, just before this encounter with this magnificent shark, we were observing an extremely rare group of around ten orcas off the coast of Mayotte when, to our greatest surprise, this tiger shark appeared out of nowhere and came to take refuge. near the boats in the immediate vicinity of the orcas!
For more than 20 minutes, with his mouth half open (but without any sign of aggression), he wandered around the divers and the ships while the orcas moved away from the area.
Two days later, this same group of orcas was filmed devouring another tiger shark measuring more than 3m.
Taking refuge near humans certainly contributed to its survival!
